2027 Prom Trends

Sara Loree's Bridal • August 7, 2026

Prom 2027 is coming in bold, and after getting a look this week at what’s ahead for the upcoming season, we can already tell this is going to be a FUN year for prom fashion.

While we’ll always love a classic prom look, Spring 2027 is giving girls permission to have a little more fun with their dress.

Think statement prints, unexpected fabrics, romantic details and silhouettes that are made to stand out.

If you’re already thinking about your 2027 prom dress (we don’t blame you!), here are some of the biggest trends you can expect to see this season.

๐ŸŒ… Ombré Is Having a Major Moment

Why choose one color when you can have two… or three?

Ombré fabrics are making a major entrance for Prom 2027, and we are here for it.

Instead of a solid color from top to bottom, these gowns gradually transition from one shade into another, creating a look that feels dreamy, dimensional and a little unexpected.

Depending on the colors and fabric, ombré can go soft and romantic or completely bold and dramatic. It’s also one of those trends that looks AMAZING in photos—which never hurts when you’re choosing a prom dress.

๐ŸŒธ Florals Are Back (But Make Them Prom)

Florals for spring may not exactly be groundbreaking…but Prom 2027 is giving them a whole new personality.

We’re seeing floral prints that feel colorful, feminine and playful, along with floral details that turn a gown into something really special. If you’re the girl who normally gravitates toward a solid-color dress, this might just be the year a floral print changes your mind.

And trust us: try the floral on.

Prints can look completely different on the hanger than they do once you’re wearing them.

๐Ÿ’ƒ Tiered Skirts Bring the Drama

If your dream prom dress involves making an entrance, keep an eye out for tiered, ruffled skirts.

Layers of fabric create tons of movement and volume without necessarily making a gown feel heavy. The result is a silhouette that feels SO fun to twirl in.

Tiered skirts are also perfect for girls who love that full-skirt prom moment but want something a little different from the traditional ballgown.

๐ŸŽ€ Corset Backs Are Back

We’ve been seeing corset-inspired bodices for a while, but for Prom 2027, the corset detail is making its way around to the back of the dress, too.

Lace-up corset backs add another beautiful detail to a gown while giving it that romantic, slightly vintage-inspired feel. Plus, they can offer a little more flexibility in the fit than a traditional zipper back.

Translation: your dress can look just as good walking away as it does walking into the room.

๐Ÿ† Leopard Print Is Back

Leopard print made its mark during Prom 2026, and it’s not going anywhere just yet. But this season, it’s getting a serious refresh.

For Prom 2027, we’re seeing leopard return in new, trendier silhouettes that give the print a completely different feel. And classic leopard isn’t the only option—we’re also seeing unexpected colorways like fuchsia, lilac and seafoam that make this trend feel even more fun and fresh.

So, if you loved the leopard trend last year but couldn't get your hands on one, this is your year.

Leopard is officially back for round two—and Prom 2027 will be its best era yet.

โœจ Brocade Is Bringing the Texture

Brocade is making an appearance for Prom 2027, bringing a little extra texture and dimension to the racks.

Unlike the smooth satins and sparkle fabrics we’re used to seeing, brocade has a woven, almost embossed look that makes even a simple silhouette feel special.

Depending on the pattern and color, it can lean romantic and feminine or bold and fashion-forward.

It’s a great option for the girl who wants her dress to stand out without necessarily reaching for all-over glitter or heavy beading. Sometimes, the fabric gets to be the statement.

๐Ÿ’• Two-Piece Styles Are Feeling Fun Again

Two-piece prom dresses are also popping back up for 2027—but these aren’t necessarily the two-piece styles you remember from prom seasons past.

This time around, we’re seeing a few fun, flirty takes on the trend that feel fresh, youthful and perfect for spring. Think playful silhouettes, unexpected combinations and just the right amount of skin showing to give the look that true two-piece effect.

We don’t expect two-pieces to take over the racks this season, but that’s part of what makes them so fun. If you’re looking for something a little different from what everyone else will be wearing, don’t skip over them when you see one on the rack.

โšซ Polka Dots Aren’t Going Anywhere

One of our favorite playful trends is sticking around: polka dots.

There’s something about a polka-dot prom dress that manages to feel retro, feminine and fashion-forward all at once. We’re seeing dots incorporated into gowns in ways that feel fresh rather than costume-y, making them perfect for the girl who wants something different without going completely outside her comfort zone.

Consider us officially on Team Polka Dot.

The Biggest Prom 2027 Trend? Personality.

If there’s one thing we’re noticing about Spring 2027, it’s that prom fashion is becoming a lot more individual.

You don’t have to choose the same sparkly fitted dress everyone else is wearing. Maybe you’re an ombré girl. Maybe you want a huge tiered skirt. Maybe you fall in love with florals.

Or maybe you walk into the fitting room wearing a leopard-print prom dress and suddenly realize you were a leopard-print girl all along.

Our biggest advice? Don’t be afraid to try the wildcard.

Some of our favorite prom appointment moments happen when a girl tries on the dress she swore she wouldn’t like…and then doesn’t want to take it off.

Prom 2027 is shaping up to be colorful, playful, bold and anything but boring—and we cannot wait to see which trends our girls fall in love with this season.
